A few weeks ago I held our annual brunch and had one of my friends speak a word of encouragement. Before she addressed the ladies she turned to me and said “You have a “Naomi spirit!” I knew who Naomi was in the Bible but it didn’t click at that moment what God was trying to tell me. So for days after the event the name Naomi stayed on my mind until one day I opened one of my books, looked up Naomi’s story and it all made sense! You see I consider myself a social introvert. My husband strongly disagrees with me but I honestly am. It could be social anxiety but I won’t self diagnose myself with that so we will just say I am a social introvert. I get uncomfortable with small talk, large crowds and socializing drains me but I do it anyway! I’m comfortable socializing with my family and close friends but shut down when I’m around people I don’t know and I sacrifice the way I feel to make others comfortable! Exhausting I know. With all that being said I have often asked, how can I, a child a God, introduce someone to God, if I can barely have small talk with a stranger? By just living my life and being myself! I have always believed that you don’t have to say a word to impact someone’s life, you can do it just by the way you live YOUR life! That’s exactly what Naomi did. Naomi didn’t shove faith down her daughter in laws throats she showed them through the way she loved them and cared for them. So much so that when she told them to return back home one of them declined and stayed with her. Ruth had a special connection with Naomi and she was so intrigued by how deeply Naomi loved her, that she wanted to learn more from her. God used Naomi’s heart and nurturing spirit to introduce himself to Ruth! That’s evangelizing! God uses people in different ways to bring others close to him. So just because you’re a social introvert and you don’t feel comfortable going door to door or pass out flyers at your local grocery store doesn’t mean you can’t evangelize! People are always watching. You impact people everyday with the way you live your life! Show them who God has been in your life and let him do the rest! We can all be Naomi’s!
