I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST
This week has truly been a week of Living in Faith Every Day. As I sit here with a migraine, replaying everything that has happened, all I can do is thank God for my sanity. It really felt like one of those weeks where one thing kept happening after the other and nothing seemed to go right. I honestly felt like I couldn’t catch a break. Reflecting on this week, I thought about a sermon my Pastor preached that examined a number of verses in the Bible which we often take out of context. This sermon was titled, “The Bible Doesn’t Say That”. In this specific message he addressed Philippians 4:13 which says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It’s a pretty popular verse that many of us often use out of context, myself included. We use it as a tool for motivation when we feel our skills are not enough to get us through something like winning a game or closing a business deal. However, when we end up losing the game or not getting the job we expected, we tend to become upset with God because we feel like he wasn’t there for us. Is that true? Absolutely not! And so the verse before 4:13 helps us to draw clarity to it. “I know how to live when I am poor, and I know how to live when I have plenty. I have learned the secret of being happy at any time in everything that happens, when I have enough to eat and when I go hungry, when I have more than I need and when I do not have enough. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” Philippians 4:12-13 After reading both verses we should be able to witness and understand how God gives us the strength but the most important part is this…..we have to be satisfied with the outcome. God is in control! You have to be willing to accept that truth. Doing all things in Christ is more about the strength and endurance God gives us by his grace, not a license for us to do whatever we want with the expectation that God has to back us up. I personally endured a great deal of trials this week, particularly at work to provide for my family, yet I was reminded that “I CAN do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me.” I was reminded yet again of this scripture when I had to make two ER visits this week on two separate occasions…Yes, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Even though my car shut off at 6:30 in the morning while on my way to drop the girls off at daycare, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Even when I didn't have a clue as to where I was going to come up with the money to get my car fixed, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". Even when I suffered through panic attacks in silence, just so I could put on a brave face, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". I tell you, this week has been a week of me being tested spiritually, mentally and physically. But, I refuse to hide in the dark and just wallow. For me, this is why it is so important to have your own relationship with God. I promise you, if I didn’t, I probably would have cursed someone out and given up a long time ago. I know I’m not the only one, nor do I claim to be stronger than anyone else, but I know who I can go to in prayer to get the strength I need to keep it together. Ladies! No matter the circumstance, know and believe that you really can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. When it gets tough, PUSH THROUGH. Stay prayed up. Stay in your word because THAT is the tool you need to live THIS life! This season of trials shall pass and believe me when I tell you, it will get better. Love Jomy
