Happy New Year!!! Turning the page symbolizes a new beginning and it’s time to turn the page from 2023 to 2024. Whether it be in your journal, your physical planner or your digital one. Regardless how you choose to turn the page, turn it. Around this time many of us are inspired to start the year off by making vision boards, setting New Year resolutions or New Year goals. Some of the goals may be to focus on our health, our finances, our families, to take more trips, grow spiritually or purchase a home. Last year, I decided to take a different approach and I set a word for the year. A word that I could carry with me in everything that I do and a simple reminder of what I wanted the year to look like for myself. It was less stressful for me to keep track of a word instead of focusing on what I wasn’t accomplishing. So this year I decided to do the same thing. Last year, the word for the year was to be INTENTIONAL. I wanted to be intentional in everything I did, opening myself up to new relationships and making sure I made time for the things that were important to me. Reflecting on how last year went, that was the perfect word for the year. I had to be intentional with who I spoke with, confided in, intentional with my prayers and how I showed up for my family. This year my word is going to be GROWTH! There will be many changes happening in my life this year and the word “growth” feels right. This year will be the year Maiya leaves for college and to be completely honest it has been difficult coming to terms with it. I knew this day would come but I didn’t realize how soon. I’ve heard that you can learn a lot from your children and I have been learning the biggest faith lesson from her. She embodies what it means to Live In Faith Everyday and now it’s time for her to take the next step and figure out who God has called her to be in this world. As parents, we spend our life preparing our children for this moment but no one prepares the parents to see them go. So now more than ever I am leaning on God to give me the strength to support my baby on this new chapter of her life and have faith that she continues to grow in her relationship with God. To me, leaning on God means I have to pray more, study more and continue to work my faith. So growing my relationship with God will be the main focus of this year. “until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.” What is your word for the year? Maybe you don’t have a word and you have goals, what are they? No matter if you have a theme for the year, goals or resolutions, I recommend for you to write them down and put them somewhere you can see them everyday. This way they are always in front of you. Now that you have written them down, what will you do with them? Take a moment every week and reflect on what have you done to accomplish these goals? For example, maybe your goal is to go on a vacation this year, that’s one big goal by itself, make a list of what you need to accomplish this goal and start checking things off the list. You need plane tickets, hotel, car, etc all of these are steps you need to complete to get you to the big goal. As you start checking things off you will visually see yourself getting closer to accomplishing the goal. 2024 is going to be a great year and I cannot wait to hear all of the wonderful themes and accomplishments that come out of this year. Feel free to share your goals and themes in the comment below and I will pray for each one of them!
