CAN'T IS A BAD WORD!

Hello Sister!

I am a firm believer that you can do anything you set your mind to do and quitting is not an option. “Can’t” is a bad word in our home! We teach our girls that they are not allowed to use the word because it’s negative and we want them to believe that they can do anything they set their mind to do. That’s the same mindset I like to have for myself when it comes to all of my roles and it is also a mindset I would like for you to adopt because it makes life so much easier! You have to find a positive way to look at all the roles life has given you, if you don’t, life can and will overwhelm you. Think about it “can’t” is such a negative word that stops progress. Once a person says “I can’t,” it is difficult to change their mind. Changing it to I will, I must, I have to or I want to programs your mind to a positive state and then holds you accountable to complete things.

Stay with me because I am about to explain all my roles and how I manage all them. Keep in mind I am not an expert but I have been juggling all of these for 12 years so I’m speaking straight from experience! Trust me if I can do it, you can too!

I have been married for 12 years and I am a bit old school with this but I believe that in my home as the wife it is my responsibility to make sure my house is clean, laundry is done and groceries are stocked. Don’t get me wrong there are days where God opens up the heavens and a light shines down from above then Marcus says “Sweetie I’ll help!” However most of the time it’s up to me. Crazy part is that I love to do it because I feel like I am doing my responsibility as a wife. I am a mommy of 3 little ladies (11,2 and 5 months) whom each have their own personality and agenda. Maiya, my oldest, is a competitive gymnast, so we have a lot of “you can do it conversations!” Being a competitive gymnast means she is at the gym 3 times a week 3 hours each day! So after I leave work I am packing all the girls up in the car to head to gymnastics. I feel It is important for her to have her mommy present and cheer her on. It was easier when it was only Aaliyah and I at the gym, but now how realistic is it to have an infant and a 2 year old sit still at a gym for 3 hours? Not realistic at all, so Marcus meets me at the gym and we alternate! He cheers Maiya on for a bit while I stay with the little ones and then we switch. Asking for help is never a bad thing, if it’s available take it.

Asking for help is not a sign of weakness!

In the midst of all this I work 40 hours a week and as a pastors wife I am deeply involved in church activities! How do I do all of this without loosing my mind?! I think the best way to explain it is that I love all the roles I have so I do all these things with joy. Do I always hold it all together? NO WAY, sometimes this momma hides in the bathroom for a few minutes or takes the long route to pick up the kids for some peace and quiet, but that’s life! Some can embrace it and others struggle through it. I’m here to tell you that you can do it ALL just take it one step at a time. Don’t do everything at once! Out of 7 days cook 3 times a week, on the day you don’t cook do laundry, on the other day clean the house and if it’s still hard guess what you can try again the next week! No where in the book of life does it say you have to be perfect in all of your roles. As long as your working to get better and don’t give up that’s all that matters! One women’s schedule doesn’t fit everyone.

This goes for every aspect of life.

Why can’t you get a promotion?
Why can’t you get the car you want?
Why can’t you own a house?
Why can’t you go back to school?

More importantly who says you can’t? Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” That’s all the proof you need.

All of these things are reachable if you work at it. Baby steps are better than no steps and as long as your moving towards your goal you are accomplishing more than what you did yesterday! Not everyone’s path will be the same, but the most important thing I want you to keep in mind is to....

BE YOU because ONLY YOU CAN BE YOU!
